How to Make a Minecraft Fox Your Trusty Blocky Companion

Trying to tame a fox in Minecraft? If you're having trouble taming these alienated passive mobs, we've put together a guide on how to tame a Minecraft fox and everything else you need to know about these adorable furry tailed Minecraft mobs.

Minecraft foxes spawn in taiga, giant taiga, and snowy biomes and are nocturnal. Foxes that live in snowy biomes have white fur, but behave the same way as foxes that live in other biomes. They usually spawn in groups of 2-4 mobs, with a 5% chance they spawn as baby foxes.

Foxes in Minecraft have a 20% chance to create items that contain emerald, rabbit foot, rabbit skin, egg, wheat, leather or feather - presumably their prey. If you spot a fox sleeping with one of them in its mouth, you might be tempted to sneak up on it, but the fox will wake up if you step on a nearby block. If the fox sadly dies from a wolf or player attack, it drops one or two experience orbs. Here's everything you need to know about foxes, including how to tame a fox in Minecraft and where they spawn.

Fox Behavior in Minecraft

You might think that foxes in Minecraft will approach you, but alas, they will run away from you when approached, unless you use stealth. If you want your fox to stay around, they can be very loyal companions if they trust you and will attack any other mob that attacks you.

However, rampant foxes are not afraid of all mobs, for example, they attack fish, chickens, rabbits and small turtles. They are able to jump over fences and walls, which means they can wreak havoc in the village, which they tend to visit at night.

Naturally, newborn baby foxes won't trust you either, but if you give a sweet berry (which foxes love) to two adult foxes, the baby they produce will actually trust you. While fox cubs have a habit of following adult foxes, you can attach a leash to your newly tamed fox cub until it's mature to stop it wandering.
